Hello Jim

I just wanted to say thank you for providing such a comprehensive and informative website for MGV8 owners. Your collation of Owners Tips has been especially useful.

I have just purchased a MGRV8 from Tokyo which arrived by ship this morning so awaiting, with a little apprehension, to see what condition the car is actually in.

Many thanks once again.

Kind regards
Graham Forbes

Guestbook Administrator's Comment:
Hi Graham,
Many thanks for your feed back, it was a labour of love and took a lot of time and effort.
Fingers crossed your RV8 arrives OK and gives you many hours of pleasure.
It is also pleasing to see the number of RV8's in New Zealand growing and how in the hands of enthusiasts.

Best Regards
Jim

Spotted a Rover (on bonnet) badged RV8 at shopping centre. Spoke to owner although I didnt get his name. I researched the car on internet and came upon your site. It is very informative and I would very much like to own a RV8. I would like to speak with some owners in Melbourne. Can you supply names and phone numbers?

Sircynge

Guestbook Administrator's Comment:
Hi Sircynge,
The best way of speaking to RV8 owners is to visit the local MG Car Clubs in your state. Victoria has two MG Car Clubs...MGCC at Geelong...www.mgccgeelong.com.au and the MGCC Victoria
www.mgcc.com.au/mgcc/default,shtml...All the Australian MG Car Clubs are listed on my website with the email addresses to just click on.
If you can not find a local car in your state suggest you contact Stuart Radcliff in NSW....Stuart is a wealth of knowledge when it comes to RV8's and he is also the only Australian Complier for RV8's under the RAW's regulations, Stuart sells all his cars with 12 months warranty....Stuart's contact...... Jim
This site has a wealth of information which I refer to on a regular basis. For that thank you very much. Earlier this year I bought a UK Spec 1993 BRG RV8, the 24th production car, that was shipped to Japan as a show car and bought by a wealthy collector travelling 2000 miles in 20 years. Yes that was correct. Two modifications on my radar screen are power steering and independent rear suspension which I know MG Rover would have fitted if the budget had allowed. For that reason I reconcile myself that I would not be altering the vehicle too much.
Regards
Aidan Handyside

Guestbook Administrator's Comment:
Hi Aidan,
Thank you so much for your feedback, I know the experience of finding such a gem, my second RV8 had just 954 KMs on the clock and it looked like it had just left the factory.
Your UK Spec car is extra special and to my knowledge there is only one other here in Australia.

Best Regards
Jim

I am going to buy an MG RV8 could you tell me the difference and or advantage over the two gearboxes fitted! and i understand there is a difference between the later V8 engine fitted over the early V8 which is the better one. These answers will influence my choice of car. Regards Ray Beckett (MAIDSTONE)

Guestbook Administrator's Comment:
Hi Ray,
Both gearboxes are good...the early LT77 is considered by some to be a little stronger but the change pattern is different and reverse can be selected instead of first....Personally I prefer the later R380 gearbox for the gear layout and ease of operation.

Jim

I own a 1995 RV8 in Oxford Blue.
I have modified it with an RPI Eng RCU chip upgrade. Have also fitted their ignition amplifier kit, magnacore plug leads and platinum tipped plugs.
These mods have made a big difference to performance, smoother idling and better fuel economy. I would highly recommend these changes for RV8 owners. Chris Crane of RPI Eng in the UK is a wealth of information for these cars.
I will also be fitting a Piper fast road cam and staqe three heads. Have replaced the original shocks with competition GAZ oes and all new eurothane bushings. Together with 225 / 55 tires the car now rides a little harder but it has transformed the handling.

Guestbook Administrator's Comment:
Hi Kevin,
The modifications you have carried out would certainly improve your cars performance....I have corresponded with Chris Crane over a number of issues and he is a wealth of knowledge when it comes to the Rover V8 engine. I have no hesitation in recommending him to other RV8 owners for advice and engine upgrade modifications. The engine management chip is particularly good.

Jim

Just had a front wheel bearing go on my RV8 and found that they dont make the wid one any more emailed Clive Wheatley in the UK and no answer after a few frustrating days at bearing shops I brought 2 Bearings Part 6207DDUC3 NS7S 107 two of these are exactly the right width and at $59NZ for 2 a fraction of the price.
This may help some one

Guestbook Administrator's Comment:
Hi Patrick,
Thank you for the info.
I've heard the bearings can be a problem to source and your information may help others should they have the need.
Re Clive Wheatley he is usually very reliable and it is unusual he didn't get back to you.

Hi Jim - a Happy New Year to you and fellow MG RV8 fans. Just a quick note to let you know that my new MG V8 book is due out next month, and copies will be available from various sources including the publisher (Crowood) and the MG Car Club V8 Register. It effectively replaces my old MG V8 book, which seems to make silly money on e-bay, but as well as bringing a lot of fresh detail on the RV8 is also covers the later MG V8s such as the SV and ZT-260. I hope it proves an interesting read for everyone... Best wishes!

Guestbook Administrator's Comment:
Hi David,
Always a pleasure to hear from you, delighted to hear the new book is due out next month. I'm sure it will sell well as do all your other book on MGs. I will have no hesitation in recommending it to all MG owners based on your other brilliant books.
Many Thanks
Jim Dolbel

Hi Eddy,
Thank you for your kind comment, glad the site was helpful.

I know how you feel, the MG bug bit me in 1964 and I have been hooked ever since and the RV8 has been the best anti-dope.
Hope your search goes well and you are soon behind the wheel of another RV8.

Hi Jim,
I'am considering purchasing an MG RV8 as my new toy, hence the reason for finding your site, which is very informative and has given me the confidence and knowledge to pursue it further.
I'am knew to the MG marque as I have had an E-type,BMW,and currently AMG c class, with space next to it for RV8!!

Thank you for your site,
Regards, Gary.

Guestbook Administrator's Comment:
Hi Gary,
Thank you for your kind comment, glad the site was able to help.
Owning an RV8 will give you a lot of driving pleasure and in some ways similar to your previous E Type. The Rv8 is a drivers car with performance to match having a classic feel with modern engineering. I always advise potentual buyers to buy the best example you can find as cars in excellent condition will always hold their value.
Regards Jim
