Comments: I have just bought an RV8 recently and wanted to know if the rear plastic screen can be converted to glass. Having owned an MGF for some time I had this done and thought that the hood size may be roughly similar. However I've been told that it can't be done and it looks that way as I've never seen a glass screen on an RV8 though would appreciate some views Thanks Stephen
Guestbook Administrator's Comment: Hi Stephen, To the best of my knowledge a glass rear window is not available for the RV8 soft top. It would also not be practicable as the hood could not be folded down. Replacement rear windows are available but sometimes the fit is not as perfect as the original and the fitting is best left to professionals. Mothers Plastic polish is recommended to be tried before deciding to replace rear window. I've used this polish and the results are very good. Regards Jim

Comments: First time I've seen your interesting site despite owning RV8's for 6 years! You may like to know that I am now the owner of Philip Jones's RV8GT, having bought it last November. It is a superb car and attracts a lot of attention wherever I take it. He fitted a fast road cam and chipped the ecu and I've just had it on a rolling road and it gives 208 bhp against the standard 190. I use it as much as I can and also do 5 track days a year with MGs on Track, which is great fun. My previous RV8 was K6 MGR, one of the rare Old English White cars, a pre-production car which now lives with it's new owner near Paris!
Guestbook Administrator's Comment: Hi Peter, The Phillip Jones's RV8GT was the first of its kind and Austrlia now also has one. I'm pleased to see it is still attracting a lot of attention. Phillip did a brilliant job and the matching trailer was another nice touch. The ECU chip certainly makes a difference although I haven't taken the plunge. Re 900015 K6 MGR having owned this rare pre-production car I don't think I could have parted with it. Hope the new owner appreciates his good fortune and it takes good care of it. Regards Jim Dolbel

Comments: My RV8 is a 1993 Jap' reimport in Woodcote green. (000499) which I purchased in Feb 2007. Would love to trace the individual history pre UK import in 2004, but so far have drawn a blank. Any pointers as to how I can proceed would be much appreciated. Smashing car, loads of poke with great sound track (exhaust note) I call it Biggles as I consider it to be a great British flyer. You don't call a car this hairy chested by a girls name!! :-)
Guestbook Administrator's Comment: Hi Biggles, A Heritage Certificate would be a great start, this will give you all the build info. Tracing the Japanese history is difficult. I was very lucky with my first car as it came with everything including owner registration papers. The MGCC in Kobe then assisted me in tracing the owner and I was able to communicate with him via emails. ( it turned our my car was a retirement present ). Re Biggles....I grew up reading all the Biggles Books and I like your name choice. Regards Jim

Comments: Would there be any way i could find the year of this chassis number please SARRAWBMBG001216 any help would be appreciated
Guestbook Administrator's Comment: Hi Barry, The best way of getting all the build information about your RV8 is to purchase a Heritage Certificate from www.heritage-motor-centre.co.uk The certificate will give you the exact build date plus a load of other information. Nice to see another RV8 make its way to New Zealand. Christchurch is becoming a pupular destination for RV8's having 5 out of 24 cars in N.Z. Regards Jim Dolbel

Comments: I own a couple of MGB Roadster's but when I saw an RV8 at a classic car show last year I fell in love with the classic lines and the sound of the V8 engine. Since then I have been looking for a UK spec car and I purchased a 1993 RV8 in Le Mans Green on the 7th.January. Very pleased to see the membership of the RV8 growing. Keep up the good work Jim.
Guestbook Administrator's Comment: Hi Malcolm, I can relate to your experience as it was the same for me. I have owned 6 MGB's dating back to 1964 prior to seeing an RV8. It was love at first sight and the 4th RV8 to be registered on Australian roads was mine. Regards Jim Dolbel

Comments: Bought in UK in Jan 2011. Driven down to Gibraltar via Brittany Ferries Portsmouth / Santander then to Gib. VIN SARRAWBMBG001276 Build date 13 Dec 1994. Woodcote Green. Now registerd in Gibraltar. Member of Gibraltar Classic Car Club.
Guestbook Administrator's Comment: Hi John, Its nice to see you take your car (1276) with you to Gibraltar. I have amended the RV8 records to show you as the new owner and deleted the former. It is probably the only RV8 in that part of the world and will create some interest in the Gibraltar Classic Car Club. Best Regards Jim Dolbel

Comments: I've always loved the idea of owning an MGRV8 and was fortunate enough to see a couple at the British Car Show at Kings School last weekend. I can highly recommend a visit to that show next year to get your British Car "fix", if you need one.
I have set myself a goal to own one of these beauties, but one issue I may have is the headroom. Some articles talk about "tall" drivers having problems. I'm just under six feet, but with a long torso. Is there any way the driver's seat can be successfully lowered? I suppose I really need to sit in one with the roof up to find out.
Anyway, I'll start saving my pennies and hopefully one day, I'll join your register with my own car. A very well structured and informative site, by the way.
Guestbook Administrator's Comment: Hi Phil, Thank you for your entry and comment.
The annual 'All British Day Car Show' held at the Kings School is a wonderful event for British car enthusiasts. I exibited my RV8 there in 2000 and 2004 and was fortunate to win my class and 1st place Outright Champion (Best Current Decarde).
Windscreen height can be a problem for very tall drivers. I have had correspondence with a couple of owners with the same problem and they solved the issue by lowering the drivers seat. This was achieved by removing the adjustment rails and fixing the seat directly to the floor. This measure may not suite everyone as the seat is permenantly fixed and only suits the individual driver.
I would also recommend a visit to RV8 Cars in Granville. The owner Stuart Radcliffe is a wealth of knowledge when it comes to RV8's and he may have some other ideas. Stuart also imports and complies RV8's to the Australian Design Rules and he would have a car for you to try out.
Regards Jim Dolbel

I have to say i am extremely pleased with the poformance of my mgr i have also fitted 17x9.5 gold simmons rims
Guestbook Administrator's Comment: Hi David, The modifications you have made are very impressive and with an output of (500HP @ 6900rpm) the performance must be something else. The standard RV8 motor delivers 0 to 100 in 5.9 seconds and your rebuild would certainly improve this performance. With the extra engine performance it is important not to neglect the other componants which may be effected by the extra power. Thank you for your information.
Regards Jim

Comments: Hi David, just getting my RV8 complied in Sydney, then over the pits in Perth, tell me which one not to go to Regards Brian
Guestbook Administrator's Comment: Hi Brian, Welcome to RV8 Ownership. I assume Stuart Radcliffe of RV8 Cars is complying your car as he is the only Authoriesed Complier for RV8's in Australia. Stuart is a wealth of knowledge when it comes to RV8's having complied well over 100 RV8's for the Austalian market. He would probably be the best person to advise you, re the procedure in WA. Another alternative is to speak to another owner who has already registered a car in WA after compliance. The MGCC or MGOC in WA would be a good starting point in locating other RV8 owners. Hope all goes well with getting your car registered and on the road. Best Regards Jim Dolbel

Comments: Just purchased RV8 magnificent but local licensing authority say front springs need replacing b-------s!! cannot find detailed information to help. any ideas please.
Guestbook Administrator's Comment: Hi David, The front springs are prone to sag and this will effect the ride height and handling.(remember these springs have been working hard for over 15 years). Stuart Radcliffe of RV8 Cars Australia has up-rated replacement front springs at a reasonable price. The other Parts Supplier I recommend is Clive Wheatley in the UK. Email and phone contacts can be found in the Parts & Service Section on my website.

Comments: G,Day Jim, could you give me some information on a RV8 soft top I've read that there is two different sizes, is this correct as I need to order one from the Uk. regards Brian
Guestbook Administrator's Comment: Hi Brian, Yes, the later hoods had an extra pocket for the hood bows and this reduced hood flap at higher speeds. Hope all goes well with the replacement. Regards Jim

Comments: just purchsed rv8 from japan, needs a lot of work to bring it back to life.anybody got infirmation on how to remove dashboard?
Guestbook Administrator's Comment: Hello Brian, Welcome to rv8 ownership, restoring a car is never easy and will take a lot of money but the end result always makes it worthwile. Removing the dash is covered in the RV8 works shop notes along with many other repairs and the procedure for each operation. These are available through the V8 Register website in the UK. The site is run by Victor Smith and the Work Shop Notes are in the form of a CD. The purchase of these Notes is highly recommended for all RV8 Owners.
Regards Jim Dolbel
