I've now completed the restoration of my MG RV8 from the hurricane damage done by Ivan. The car is looking and driving great. However, the cockpit heat is almost unbearable on a hot day, possibly heat transfer from the engine bay and trans. Do any of the owners of factory built, (unrestored) RV8's have this problem?
[email protected]

Guestbook Administrator's Comment:
Hi Tom, It was so pleasing to see the restoration is now complete and your car is on American roads.
Re the cockpit heat is usually caused by the catalytic converters positioned directly under the cockpit. To help reduce the heat from the cats, heat shields were included around the converters and between the converters and the floor of the vehicle. Did you refit the heat shields as part of your restoration ? , without the shields the heat will certainly be reflected into the floor of the cockpit.
In addition some other members have also included the fitting of extra insulation under the carpets.
The heater control valve is also known to cause problems on occasions when not completely closing thus directing hot air into the foot wells. This usually involves an adjustment to the operating cable or valve replacement.
Hope the above helps with your situation.

Great website for all MGB lovers.
Why is it that the RV8 is never mentioned in the Rover MG line up of cars.
After all the RV8 was the start of the rebirth of MG cars as a true sports car.
I have converted my 77 "B" into Rover V8 with 5 speed gearbox but would like to give it the RV8 look. Will have to get together with the 2 other RV8 owners here in the USA.

Guestbook Administrator's Comment:
The RV8 was a means of reintroducing the MG name to the public after a laps of 20 years and the then owner Rover wanted something special for that purpose, hence the RV8.
As you probably reaise there were only 2000 units produced in a very limited production run which is why the RV8 is so exclusive.
Converting your MGB to an RV8 look a like can be done once the necessary parts/panels have been sourced but these are becoming scarce and expensive.
Probably the best avenue to secure the necessary parts is from vehicle breakers/wreckers such as the pair of RV8's currently advertised in Wales.

G'day

I am now the proud of RV8 No1183 It is my 3rd MG and is the most fun car I have owned
I am having trouble finding an uprated set of shocks for my car in aussie,my supplier suggested I track down the original shock part numbers in order to match the new shocks for extended length and bush sizes etc. I hope this may reach someone who can help with my dilema.

I love the site, as it is good to read other peoples comments on their cars

Guestbook Administrator's Comment:

I own a 1979 MGB and was courious about the new model.

Guestbook Administrator's Comment:
Hi Russell,
Details of how the RV8 was conceived can be found in the "RV8 Story" on this website.
As the early RV8's are now almost 15 years old it is hoped the import regulations may allow them into the United States / Canada and hopefully enthusiasts can join the RV8 fraternity.

G'Day Mates,I've recently purchased 1444 from Clive Wheatley, uprated shockers, wheels & the 4 tail pipe exhaust(awesome sound). Who needs plastic surgery or Viagra when you have a car like this. This is my 4th MG &probably the best.

Guestbook Administrator's Comment:
Hi Roy,
Thank you for you Entry & welcome to RV8 ownership.
Clive Wheatley is a very reputable dealer / service facility who has contributed greatly to the RV8 fraternity.
The uprated shock absorbers are a worthwhile addition and Clive's new look exhaust system looks awesome.
Your 4th MG is no surprise as MG's have always had an addiction.
Enjoy the RV8.

Informative site. I bought my 1993 RV8 mid feb 2007 (000499 in Woodcote Green)I have been unable to trace its history. All I know is that it was a Japanese reimport in 1993. I would like to know if there are any likely nasty surprises likely, mechanically or electrically that could show up on a car of this age (37000 miles)

Guestbook Administrator's Comment:
John,
Thank you for your entry and welcome to RV8 ownership.
Tracing previous history (particularly the Japanese history) is always going to be difficult.
I researched my car through the documentation which came with the car and with the help of the Kobe MGCC. It's a daunting process but you can be lucky if you persist.
I eventually made contact with the original owner, which put my mind at rest on a number of issues including the very low mileage recorded on the speedo.
A Heritage Certificate is also another worthwhile source of information.
Any car 14 years old could have problems, however we have a great support organisation in place to help owners and I highly recommend the V8 Register RV8 Workshop Notes.
The V8 Register Bulletin Board is also a wonderful forum, to ask questions. ( www.v8register.net )
My website also has an "Owners Tips Section" highlighting some of the issues which may arise.

Jim: Just a quick note. The YNKE RV8 (1443)is now running and drivable, turning heads everywhere it's been. Unfortunatly, can't use it much yet as the interior hasn't been completed and it's a little too scary driving on a B seat bolted to a piece of plywood. But, estimated completion date is only weeks away. Tom

Guestbook Administrator's Comment:
Hello Tom,
Thank you for the update and all the pictures along the way.
Its great to see the completion only two weeks away.
Look forward to the coming out parade, hope all goes well, keep me informed.

Great site for info.
I'm about to buy an import, but it's been in the UK since 2005
Reg no N514HWP any additional history would be useful

Guestbook Administrator's Comment:
I normally reply to each entry, however you have not left an email address for me to do so.
Unfortunatly the Registration number is of little help and all the information I have on file is based on the VIN numbers.
If you would like to email me ( [email protected] ) I may be able to assist you with your inquiry.

Looking for a good MG R V8

Guestbook Administrator's Comment:
The best advice I can give when purchasing an RV8 is to buy the best you can afford.
A Car in excellent condition is a far better proposition than restoring a rough example.
This is due to the high cost of refurbishments and spare parts which soon add up.

See the For Sale advertisments in this website.
The V8 register also has a number of RV8's for sale advertised.

Remember the prices quoted are the asking prices and usually negotiable.

Congratulations this is an excellent site. Many very nice pictures. Lots of useful information. I just could not find anything on "whether any LHD RV8s were ever produced.

Guestbook Administrator's Comment:
The Rv8 was never produced in LHD although a couple private conversions have been produced. The coversions were very expensive and not considered economical. There is also a LHD RV8 in the USA (Ohio) which was totally constructed using spare parts and therefore has no production VIN.

I am just waiting customs clearance and registration on my Rv8 - chassis 1251, from Japan.

Can anyone tell me if the Japanese cars were undersealed? As I believe a lot of other types of vehicles in Japan arn't.

Guestbook Administrator's Comment:
HI Richard,
Yes the under body of the RV8 is sealed and the panels Zinc dipped.
However everything still depends on the owner keeping the underside clean, especially if the vehicle has been used on winter roads laden with salt. ( the vast majority of reimported RV8's from Japan are in very good codition in this regard ).
Good luck with your import and welcome to RV8 ownership.

Saw my first MGRV8 20 Aug at Vintage Concours at Mid Ohio Race course. As a former owner of a 66 and 70 MGB/GT I was impressed and intrigued.

Guestbook Administrator's Comment:
Wonderful to see the RV8 in America. The car you refer to is owned by Scott Miller of Ohio and was built totally from spare parts. There is also another RV8 VIN 1443 due to hit the US roads shortly.
Unfortunately these will probably be the only 2 RV8's to make the US roads.

I own a Red Night Fire MGRV8 registration number K12MGR does anybody know any of the history. You will find it in many of the books as it was one of the orignal press cars.

Look forward to any news!

John

Guestbook Administrator's Comment:
Hello John,
Yes, your car was one of the pre production vehicles ( produced before the main production commenced )and was assigned as a Press vehicle to advertise the MG's re introduction to the public.
K12MGR had VIN number 900029 and will always remain one of our special RV8's.
The other Press vehicle was K12MGR VIN 900017
