Comments: G,Day Jim, could you give me some information on a RV8 soft top I've read that there is two different sizes, is this correct as I need to order one from the Uk. regards Brian
Guestbook Administrator's Comment: Hi Brian, Yes, the later hoods had an extra pocket for the hood bows and this reduced hood flap at higher speeds. Hope all goes well with the replacement. Regards Jim

Comments: just purchsed rv8 from japan, needs a lot of work to bring it back to life.anybody got infirmation on how to remove dashboard?
Guestbook Administrator's Comment: Hello Brian, Welcome to rv8 ownership, restoring a car is never easy and will take a lot of money but the end result always makes it worthwile. Removing the dash is covered in the RV8 works shop notes along with many other repairs and the procedure for each operation. These are available through the V8 Register website in the UK. The site is run by Victor Smith and the Work Shop Notes are in the form of a CD. The purchase of these Notes is highly recommended for all RV8 Owners.

Comments: What a great site very helpful,Not long had this rv8 vin no 0638 ex jap import.would like to trace all the history off this car.
Guestbook Administrator's Comment: Hi David, Thank you for your kind comment. Tracing the early ownership history of your RV8 is difficult. I was able to do so with one of my cars but with the other it was impossible. The first car came with a mountain of paperwork including Japanese Registration papers and the owners name. I then had the information translated and the Kobe MGCC in Japan came to my rescue. A Heritage Certificate will also provide you with all the build information. Regards Jim

Comments: Brilliant site, gave me all the info I was searching for. Are the Nissan space saver wheels a UK item?
Guestbook Administrator's Comment: Hi Reg, Thank you for your kind comment, so glad it was able to help you. Re the Nissan space saver wheel, I would imagine it could be found in the UK. RV8 Cars here in Australia have them for sale including a wheel cover and from memory they were priced very reasonable. Stuart Radcliffe would have more information:- [email protected] Best Regards Jim Dolbel

Comments: Hi, great site for this vehicle. Have just taken delivery of Vin 2160 ,27000km ex Japan.Woodcote Green but fitted with Beige Hood which matches trim .Came with all the goodies normally missing on export, original books and servicing records.Oh for a flare to complete equipment. best regards Keep up the good work.
Guestbook Administrator's Comment: Hi Graham, Thank you and welcome to RV8 Ownership. I have added your car to the RV8 records. Currently I have 993 RV8's registered which is amost 50% of the total production, ( included in this figure are 202 Australian RV8's) Receiving all the accessories was a stroke of luck, most imports have some missing. Re the flare, it may have been removed during shipping as some carriers regard them as a fire hazard. Best Regards Jim Dolbel

Comments: Hi, Im going to make some refreshment works to the leather upholstry. The colur code for the trim and leather is SMJ, but is there any other leatherpaint codes or ncs (natural colur system) codes? My local dealer ask for this.
Guestbook Administrator's Comment: Hello Gunnar, The only codes I have are those displayed on the VIN Plate and in the RV8 Workshop Manual. The codes are :- "S" is for Basic Colour. "M" is for Marque Identifier. "J" is for Colour Shade Name.
I always use AUTOGLYM products; the Leather Conditioner will not alter the colour of the leather and will inturn make the leather softer and prevent cracking.
Best Regards Jim Dolbel

Comments: just purchased rv8 reg 900012, would like to trace its history, great pages on rv8 i have found in such a short time.
Guestbook Administrator's Comment: Hello Ian, As you realise your RV8 900012 is a very important pre production RV8 and fortunatly you have all the facilities in the UK to help with your History trace. David Knowles brilliant book " MGV8 Twenty One Years On " - makes reference to your car 900012. In the "MG RV8 Pre Production Development & Validation chart" your car has the following reference :- Vehicle I.D - ZZ 3428 Build Reference - ADD 301 VIN No. - 900012. Registration No. K398 FDU Colour - Woodcote Green Validation Use - Durability Car & team use.
The UK Heritage Motor Centre and the V8 Register Bulletin Board are a couple of other areas you may explore.
Best Regards Jim Dolbel.

Comments: Great site! Must be a lot of value to an RV8 owner. A friend of mine is taking delivery of a Japanese car later this week. We can't wait.
Guestbook Administrator's Comment: Hi David, Thank you for your complement, it is so pleasing to hear of another RV8 going to Canada and into the hands of an enthusiast. I have 4 other RV8's registered by fellow Canadian owners and your car will be the fifth. Please register your car when it arrives on my website. Best Regards Jim Dolbel

Comments: Having just purchased an MGR and not knowing the first thing about it, yours was the first, and best page I found - I've already made the advised checks and changes - re manifold bolts loose, vacuum tube on the wrong place, and other foibles - gave me a lot of confidence already. Amazing car, so pleased I didn't go for the E-type now that I've driven the v8.
Guestbook Administrator's Comment: Hi David, Welcome to RV8 ownership and I'm so glad the website was able to help. You will find the RV8 fratenity very friendly and supportive.
I also owned a 1966 E Type way back in 1968 and cherished the experience as they were the ultimate in that era.
With summer approaching down with the hood and enjoy your purchase.
Best Regards Jim Dolbel

Comments: Just to let anyone know who wants to fit a tow bar to a RV8 ,a company in UK called Watling Towbars manufacture a very robust one.
Guestbook Administrator's Comment: Hi Kerbut, Many thanks for the info. It's pleasing to see this company has taken the trouble to manufacture these towbars for such a rare vehicle.

Comments: Hi, I have purchased a MGV8 1550 from Japan and will get it to Australia in April, From the reading i have done online the car sounds fantastic to drive and look at. I want to drive it on the track at club events and want to know what i need to do for good handling allround. Also it has wood Gear knob, hand brake handle and window winders, Is this a option in the UK or Japan?
Guestbook Administrator's Comment: Hi Trevor, Firstly the Wooden gear know, hand brake handle and window winders are all after market items. These items can often enhance the looks of a vehicle but are not original equipment on the RV8.
In the UK the RV8 has been raced with varing success. Therefore the UK would be the best place to make enquiries. The wonderful website run by Victor Smith www.v8register.net would be a good starting point.
Best of luck with your import, hope everything goes smoothly.
Regards Jim
